How to increase traffic to your web site by optimising for the Google search engine.

It's widely recognised and acknowledged that website optimisation based around Google is a very shrewd move. Many web site owners, bloggers, webmasters and people with an online interest in increasing traffic know that Google holds the key. There may be a lot of commotion around facebook, youtube and twitter; they are all useful and worth utilising but Google is still the king and will remain so for the foreseeable future.

Google has always been one of the most accurate search engines; able to locate web sites and web pages that other search engines couldn't and in many cases still can't. As a search engine it commands 80% of the web site traffic so getting your site indexed and ranked is a sure fire way increase traffic and improve search engine ranking. MSN is currently trying to throw a spanner in the works with their latest inception called Bing which they've labelled a "decision engine". Whether said spanner lodges itself or just bounces off remains to be seen but it's highly unlikely that anything they do will have too much of an effect on Google.

The way Google works, the reason it's so successful and the reason why it's a web site traffic monster is to do with how they actually index web sites. Their software, the aptly named spiders, searches web sites and then looks closely at the amount of links that point to it. The more links a web site has the more authority it must have. It's really that simple. Lots of links from other sites means lots of web site traffic for the owner because Google will index it higher in their results and allocate higher page rank.

So when you seek out high traffic low competition keywords, especially longtails, you not only give yourself an excellent organic search optimization rating, you also create an off site or off page optimisation opportunity. You can create the other links yourself by building them up through social bookmarking, article posting, using sites like facebook, youtube and twitter. You can create stand alone blog pages or micro blogs at places like Hubpages, Squidoo and Blogger to increase traffic even further.

Your web site traffic can really be under your own control and determined by the amount of work and effort you are prepared to put in to develop it. The thing is though when you target profitable low competition keywords and longtail keywords it doesn't take that much work to see results. Once you increase traffic, even just a little bit, it can spur you on to do more. Within the space of a few weeks you could set up your own little traffic network of bookmarks, articles and micro blogs. When they all point back to your main site or page your web site traffic will really begin to increase substantially.

But it all starts with keyword research and keyword search engine optimization techniques. It's nothing difficult or any thing like rocket science, in fact it's rather easy. There's a small tutorial course of articles that show you how easily you can achieve this right here on this site. If you follow the articles and implement the ideas you'll soon see a nice increase to your web site traffic.
